Got up at the hotel and got everything together. We headed to a local breakfast joint in Hiawassee for some good food to fill up before hiking again. After breakfast we went over to the budget inn Three Eagles outpost and filled up on fuel and I got a zlite sleeping pad to save weight! We headed back to dicks creek gap with the grandparents and uncle Scott, said our goodbyes and left them to give out more trail magic. Once we crossed the GA/NC border we conquered some fun uphills and stopped at Muskrat Creek Shelter to tent for the night. Hung out with a bunch of new faces before heading to the tent for the night. At about 9 the rain started.

Woke up soaked. Everything in the tent had been misted all night by the condensation and was wet all the way through when the sleeping bags sadly! We reluctantly got up and packed everything up wet and moved to the shelter to cook a warm breakfast. Decided we might as well push on and went to Standing Indian Shelter where luckily there was space for us so we could dry out a bit. Hung out in the shelter most of the day waiting for the storm to pass. By the time it was dark we had 12 people under the shelter roof people on the ground and on the table and a hammock inside it was madness. Got to sleep dry though!

We were the last ones out of the shelter at 10:00am or so and did some good miles to Carter Gap shelter for lunch. We then decided we would try to push all the way to Winding Stair Gap and get into Franklin for the night. After climbing Albert Mountain and hiking with a bit of a chill we made it to Winding Stair Gap at 8:30pm and called a shuttle for the Sapphire Inn in Franklin. We had just doubled our longest day pumping out a big 23.5 miles, but the warm, dry bed was worth it! After showers we ordered pizza delivery, pigged out, and passed out!

Woke up late and are taking a zero today. We walked to the dollar store to get some cheap snacks and a pack towel for Poho. Headed over to a local sewing supply store to get a needle and some strong thread to repair gloves and a stuff sack. Doing laundry now, going to Walmart soon! Heading back out on the trail tomorrow! Got some cheap fleece material from Walmart and made some liners for our sleeping bags. Mexican for dinner!
