Woke up and the Indian woman was trying to come in the room at only 9 am. The check out time was 10 so we packed up and took second shower. We got back to the trail after resuppling at the deli at around 11. We walked up a by pass trail because there was a warning sign that we shouldn't take the A.T because it was flooded from the river. We got to hiking up and over some bigger peaks and we took a break at the shelter at the top. The mosquitos were starting to bite us in 3s so we left and as we were going over the second hump in the ridge I was coming down and Turbo was about 30 feet in front of me. I saw a pattern on a stick and as my foot was going down. I realized it was a snake and I stumbled backwards to get my feet away as fast as I could. My left trekking pole slipped and I went flying to my ass, my trekking pole went flying at the snake making it RATTLE and I saw the shape of its head as I scrammbled up onto the rock behind me on the opposite side of the trail. Turbo heard me scream and came running. I was so shined that I didn't get bit that I could hardly tell Turbo why I was screaming and not walking towards him. He saw the snake and was as impressed as I as the snake slittered across the trail between us and up onto a tree, showing how big he is. As soon as he was starting to get far enough off trail for me to get by I went for it because he was still slightly coming towards me. He rattled at me as I went by and I almost ran into a tree I was so afraid. For the next 2 miles I couldn't believe how close I was to a timber rattlesnake and didn't get bit. Pure shock. The rest of the day was just as tiring as the rest and the mosquitos were biting while we were walking and it waa so itchy. I was starting to go insane. I have about 42 mosquito bites/places where I have scratches my skin off. we came to a feild with a beauitful view and the bugs started to cease. We ate dinner and then they came back so we all got in our tents just as the sun was falling away from the horizon.
Woke up when everyone started shifting around and being loud. We laid in the tent awhile and finally decided to start out day early. We blew through the first four miles within 50minutes. We went into town and resupplied. We ate lunch from the deli area of the grocery store and I luckily found bugspray! I could then survive the mosquito clouds. We hiked out of town and got over the bigger hills really quickly and took our time coming down because the rocks were so steep. As we got over the steepest hill with a huge ridge walk it started to storm. We could see the storm before it hit us. I had to slide down most of the rock walls because I couldn't reach the foot holes. We got down to the bottom and hid under some trees until it quit raining. We headed over the last steep hill and down to the shelter. I killed my phone today playing music but at least I am happy. I had a wonderful day and I feel strong.
Woke up when everyone started stirring around and decided to eat my muffins in my sleepy.g bag because I wasn't ready to get up and put by wet clothes clothes on. We got to moving around 9:30 am and came down the mtn and over a few bumps before heading .4 to Great Barrington to grab some food. We came upon a fancy organic food place but both of us were starving and what was in our food bags wasn't going to cut it. We ate our food and I felt really bad that we stunk so bad in such a fancy place. The pizza guy a couple if days ago made me feel paranoid. We went outside to finish charging our phones when a really nice lady came up to us. She asked us if we needed showers + a place to stay and introduced herself as Catharine. She had two children with her and a man with her who we later found out was her brother. We figured we couldn't turn down such a great deal. Little did we know how great our night would turn out to be. She took us back to her house and we took showers and did our laundry. They went on a walk while we took showers ans when they got back we played with the kids for awhile. Lincoln and Rebecca were great to hang out with. It really made me miss my sisters. We later walked to Catherines friends house (Jeffery) and ate dinner. The meal was glorious. We had the most expensive and well made meal we had ever eaten. I couldn't pronouce the dishes Jeffery was laying on the table. They were interested in what we were doing and asked a ton of questions. It was interesting to be surrounded by such successful people that were as impressed with us as we were with them. We had a lot of fun singing the kids camps songs and solving riddles before walking back to Catherines house and heading to bed.
