Fall count: 7
Got up early and packed up. ate what was left in our food bags, slowly left camp and hauled ass to town. We passed some more SOBO hikers before getting down to a really busy town rd. As soon as we crossed the street a woman offered us a ride into town. We talked with her about the ski resorts all around. We washed our clothes and a ton of locks talked to us and wished us luck. We bought new shoes and insoles! Feels like walking on clouds. We went to McDonald's but there wasn't any plug ins so we ate and went back to the grocery store go resupply. Right after I plugged in at the outfitters a guy came out of the grocery store and offered us a ride up to the trail. So my phone never got charged but we got in and out of town without ever putting a thumb out. We walked 2 miles up out of town racing the rain and made it to the shelter just in time. We met some interesting SOBOs, learned more about Rainbow. 536.1 miles left. I've got this. Going to bed with a full belly tonight feels good!
Woke up at a decent time and hiked the rest of the mtn and over a few peaks quickly because the water pump in between wasn't working. We took a couple of breaks and made it to the shelter early. Breaking in the shoes was easier than the other ones but still a little painful. We got to the shelter before the rain started once again. We listened to a section hiker play the guitar badly and ate a delicious dinner. Jambalaya and pepperoni.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TURBO!!!!
Woke up late and slowly got ready before jumping into the rain. We went up a few peaks with huge rock carvas. Turbo without a rain jacket was on the verge of hypothermia after the temp dropped below 40. The wind was super strong on the tops of the peaks. We made it to the next shelter around 2 and took the last 2 spots in the shelter. We laid around and laughed all afternoon with our other shelter friends. Peter Pan wrote Turbo a Happy Birthday poem. Inspired by a section hiker that was writting a book that consisted of random people she meets on the subway and asking them to write a poem. Subway poems. Super packed shelter tonight but at least we are dry and warm.
Woke up late not wanting to get out in the cold with our wet shoes. We lollygagged until 10:40 before blasting up over the peak between us and the road. We got down to the parking lot and waited for the section hikers to get there. They gave us a ride into town and we went to walmart, Tj Max, and price chopper before walking to find a motel. We got a room and ate pizza, cake, and a box of coco puffs before falling asleep.
